Message: <blockquote data-quote="Henadic Theologian" data-source="post: 9170538" data-attributes="member: 7030526">They matter hugely, literally no less Acheron (Greek God & River in Hades), Tartarus (Greek God & Prison of the Titans), Elysium (nice Greek afterlife), Arcadia (home of the God Pan, and kind of like the Feywild of Greek Mythology sort of), Oceanus (the River that connects Elysium, Arboria, the Beastlands, and sometimes Ysgard, included in Daily Prayers), Ysgard (Norse form of Asgard, the name of the Norse Pantheon), Hades (Greek God of the Underworld included in daily prayers), Yggdrasil (Norse World tree), Orcus (a Roman/Eratruscan God of the Underworld), River Ma'at in the Outlands (Egyptian Goddess), OLYMPIC Glades of Arboria (Olympus is literally in its name and and one of the key defining parts of its first Layer), Tiamat (Babylonian Goddess and a big deal in the Mythology), Bahumut in the lore is also Marduk (another Babylonian Gid), Asmodeus (Judas-Christian mythology), Stryx (Underworld River Goddess, included in an Orphic prayer I say daily). Oh and stuff like Nymphs, Satyrs, and Centaurs are minor Gods in Greek Mythology (and Religion), Nymphs for example have a prayer to them in the Ophric Hymns. And I haven't even touched things like metaplots and stuff, just geography, like Poseidon sent a Hero to defeat the Lady of Pain in the one of Planescape few novels (Pages of Pain I believe). It's baked right into the very structure, the Outer Planes, of the Great Wheel. The only Planes that aren't tied to real world religions are Bytopia, Beastlands, Outlands, that's it. The RL Gods & their mythologies literally define the Planes of Planescape more then any other setting, even FR, Ravenloft, and Spelljammer. Without that you might as well have just stuck with the World Axis cosmology. Actually even that has RL Gods and Afterlives, like Asmodeus, Tiamat, Hell, etc..., just in smaller amounts.</blockquote>
