The plan... Below is what I am about to email this player. Tell me what you thing. But first, a bit of background. This player's character, a rogue has been a worshipper of Mask from the start. However, he has payed his deity very little attention. He took a level of Shadowdancer at his last "level up". To explain it, I came up with the idea that all of his shadowdancer powers are coming from Mask. I had hoped this would cause him to pay more attention to Mask, but it only had a little effect so this is my plan: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Arian [After arriving in Thunderstone, by means of a very disturbing spell (teleport), Arian set out to find himself a good inn. While he was glad to be out of danger, he knew he would soon grow bored. He had managed to collect a great deal of coin in the last few weeks. It was more than he had ever seen. On top of that, he had found that he had gained the ability to remain undetected even when people where looking right at him. It seemed a small prayer to Mask was all it took…] Arian padded silently through the quiet streets of Thunderstone. He had watched a wealthy merchant leave The Bear’s Den and had been stalking him for about five minutes before he felt it. Someone was watching him. He didn’t know whom it was or where it was coming from, but nowhere he went felt safe. He activated the magical ring on his finger. Instantly a chill came over him. He had gotten used to that, it was effect of the magic. The ring made him almost impossible to see. The night was cold; spring was still a month or more off. Arian told himself that it was the night’s cold breeze that sent a chill down his spine. He didn’t really believe it though. The presence had begun to grow worse. It was always behind him; always just out of sight. He spotted a narrow alley up ahead and quietly slid into it. “Mask hide me.”, he whispered in near silent prayer and suddenly the presence disappeared. Nothing. It was gone as if it had never been. Arian grinned at his own foolishness. “I’m just jumping at shadows. There is nothing in this town that can stalk me…..” The words left him as he turned facing deeper into the alley. The sense of dread had returned and it’s source stood before him. It appeared to be a man; slim and about his own height. He couldn’t make out anything more in the darkness. Nothing except the red eyes that peered back at him. “You call upon my aid Arian?”, the man asked, his voice low and raspy. “How do you know me?” Arian asked in a trembling voice. “Was it not I that you called upon for aid?” “You can’t be…” , but he knew. The Shadowlord stood before him. “You ask for my help and I gave it. You ask for things, but pay no mind to their price. Did you think you would not have to pay?” “I didn’t know…” Arian stammered. “You are a selfish mortal.”, the man said with a hiss. “Fortunately for you, selfishness is my domain.” He paused a moment to let his words sink in. The man turned his attention to the ring on Arian’s finger. “A pretty toy.” The man said. “But it is a crutch. I’ll take this as payment for now.” The chill that came with the activation of the ring faded. Astonished, Arian looked down at his now bare finger. “Serve me Arian. Be my priest. My acolyte. Serve me and be rewarded. Serve me or pay your debt. Either way, I will have your soul.” If you choose NO: Arian’s head whipped back as pain ripped through his body. It seemed as if his bones would turn to ice. He screamed and thrashed, but there was no escaping it. Arian jerked awake. His body covered in sweat, he gasped for breath. He knew it wasn’t just a dream. He had had similar dreams before, but this was different. He knew that he was severed from the god he once trusted. The convulsions took him and he vomited. Tomorrow would be a new day. He had overcome the temptation of evil and was now free to walk a new path. No man or god would hold his leash. [Loose 12,000 XP, -1 Constitution, +1 Charisma, +15 Hero points, +1 Luck bonus to all saves and Armor Class] If you choose YES: The shadows around Mask seemed to spring to life. They swept forward, wrapping Arian in their dark embrace. It was ecstasy beyond mortal comprehension. He peered into the eyes of his god and glimpsed the pleasures that would await him in the next life. His body spun. Whirled about in the shadows like a child’s doll. The alley no longer existed; he was in a world of pure shadows and nothing could be more beautiful. Arian jerked awake. His body covered in sweat, he gasped for breath. He knew it wasn’t just a dream. He had had similar dreams before, but this was different. He had accepted the call to Mask’s clergy. He rolled over and shook with the aftereffects of the Shadowlord’s carress. There on his pillow was a black mask tinged with red, the Shadowlord’s symbol. It had all been real, and now his life had new meaning. [Must swap 1 or more Rogue levels for Cleric levels (Max. 4), Must take next level as cleric or shadowdancer, +2 Wisdom] Ignore the Hero Points thing. Just know that 15 is a lot. He has expressed intrest in being a cleric before, so I don't think he will balk at this. Your thoughts?
