I wasn't going to continue posting, as this thread as done little but turn into a slagging match instead of offering helpful advice, but I'll make this post in the vain hope that people actually read it and try to understand the situation at hand. The majority of the group comes from a 1st and 2nd edition background where pulling off damage of over 30+ was quite rare outside of very specific circumstances. The combat system was simpler, you didn't have to worry about or memorise AoO's, a load of feats, 5' steps and the miniature based combat rules that the 3.x edition brought to the game. Now third edition is much more pumped up than prior editions, and yes, playing the game as it is presented it is possible to pull off a lot higher damage than what we were used to under 1st and 2nd. And even though its been roughly 4 years since 3rd was released, we are all still learning the ins and outs of the combat system. It is miniatures driven (which we're trying to see if it helps make things easier) and thats a big difference. But basically, it comes down to the fact that we prefer the combat style that was standard under the prior editions. So the other players don't make characters that are as optimised as they could be, for that reason. As said by one my players (who decided not to get involved in this thread but has read it), they prefer the game where they are always on the "edge" whether it be in combat or with puzzles or traps. Does that actually make a bit more sense? As it is I have e-mailed Likudice (didn't get the chance to sat face to face, or I would have done so) and tried to reach a compromise between our two playstyles. My apologies if in my last few posts if I got a bit stressed. The negative posts really got my back up after a while, as I had only posted to get advice.
