Players: do you help your DM? DMs, do you like getting rules reminders?

Players, do you help your DM? If he forgets something -- his critters' spell resistance, or ongoing damage from the round before -- do you remind him? I find myself frequently muttering "spell resistance" to my DMs and they seem to appreciate the reminders.

DMs, do you like this kind of help? I know when I'm DMing any assistance in remembering what's going on is appreciated.

As a player: I point out things both for and against in fairly equal measure. Since my GM takes P'kitty's route on monsters, I really never know what the capabilities of the baddies are, but try to help with rules as needed.

As a GM: Remind me!! Please!! Trying to run 5-7 NPC's with different abilities, etc is taxing on my already overworked mind!

As a DM: Yes, I like getting reminders, and my players give me reminders when I forget rules. Mostly, I have to remind them of the rules, but there are exceptions. :)

As a player: Yes, I give reminders - especially on more complicated rules like grappling I'll have my PHB open to the page to make it easier for us all.

Cheers!

Yeah, I do.. and I'm not the only one in the group that does this either.. annoys my wife a little, who also plays.. :) of course, to be fair, I'll help out if another player overlooks something important too.. after all, we're all adults, and the game is more fun if it's a challenge and fair all around..

I do. About once a game the other players give me a nasty look because I remind the DM of something that is disadvantageous to our party. Fair is fair. :D

One thing that I do find amusing ... when I have my DM's hat on, I seem to remember the rules (in general) much better. When I am the player, I can't remember squat! It's so silly, but I've seen the same phenomenon with at least one of my players who is also my DM -- when he's DMing he knows it all, and when he's playing he can't remember something fairly basic like how dispel magic works...

I do have a tendency to forget my arcane spell failure when wearing armor. But, then again, so does the DM. Now I just use a big post-it note on my spells sheet that says, "10% failure!" That has worked well. The DM has also allowed me to ignore spell failure outside of combat, which is also a nice extra.

Anything that can help you remember stuff is a good thing. Which is a great reason to love post-its. I should really invest in some of their stock. :D

I regularly "help" out my DM with minor rule reminders and the like and I hope he appreciates it. I know for a fact that some of the players on the other hand DON'T like it. Stating that such and such can't do something or that the penalty for some such is -4 not -2 tends to bug one or two of my mates. I see no problems if someone forgets a rule but deliberately "forgetting" is paramount to cheating and why play a game to cheat?

Having said that I could just be a pain in the ass rules lawyer ;)

I play with the same group of people scattered in groups of 5-6 over several campaigns with different people DMing the various games. For us, the other DMs generally try to help the poor guy on the other side of the screen remember stuff.

Some of the players who don't DM actually get irritated when we "help" the DM remember things from time-to-time, but although we frequently joke about it, our version of D&D isn't player vs. DM so the assistance is appreciated for the most part.
