To keep it short and sweet, after 10+ years of 3.5e, my gaming group and I (the DM) have decided to make the leap to 5e. And it is spectacular. While we often find ourselves missing the complexity of 3.5e (making characters felt like wizards hunting through tomes of lore that that right piece of the puzzle), the sleek and simple new edition really takes the bog out of our sessions. And, now that we're all in our 30s with adult schedules (lame), we really appreciate the ability to focus on game and not rules.
That being said, we're definitely a highly experience group and, over the last 10+ years, have developed a considerable set of House Rules. Not to mention that we often feel 5e is just a little too simple. In that light, we have decided to port our 3.5e House Rules to 5e, and maybe even bring back a few old rules in the process (we're looking at you, flanking).
What we need from you, oh wonderful gaming community, is criticism. We had over a decade to perfect some of these rules in the old system. But now, we've been instantly polymorphed back into our High School selves, wherein we find ourselves desperately searching the Player's Guide to answer the almighty question of, "Can he do that?" Basically, we're not familiar enough with 5e, nor do we have the ample time we used to, to update the rules ourselves (plus we just want to share it because sharing is fun!).
So, without further adieu: the [ROUGH] Player's Guide to Tellus! The goal of this guide is to be a total and complete reference document to our campaign world, Tellus, as well as cover all of our House Rules. Most of the Tellus-related stuff can be found on our Obsidian Portal page (Chronicles of Tellus). Feel free to check that out and provide feedback, but please keep in mind our main concern at this moment is the updating of our rules; the intricacies of world-building can be saved for another post. Some of my thoughts and notes are added in the comments within the document.
I look forward to working with you all and hearing your feedback! Thank you!
