Hey thanks! Of course, having a DMPC does help facilitate matters! I did choose the Underdark obsession with much malice aforethought, of course. True confession time: I did fudge some of the encounters in the Wormwrithings. When the 'kobold trap' result came up the third time, I let it slide, as it was boring the second time. And I did deliberately bring in the purple worm, just because it was awesome, and it did have a profound effect on the group. Heh. I forgot to mention this exchange: They met Fendrick on the way to the orcs, and he gave them his spiel. Dag spits and asks flatly, "If you have salt and gemstones, why aren't you paying us?!" Toran intervenes and points out that the gnomes need the money for weapons, as Fendrick just said. Erevan winks at Dag to calm him down, and then when they're away, merrily points out, "They're sending us with their wealth of gems to trade for them... with none coming along with us. Who knows what could happen?" Dag gets this gleam in his eye at the thought, but Toran puts his foot down in one of his finest speeches: "Look. I've seen a lot of the world, more than either of you, and I'm a realist to this extent: If a gem or two... drops off the wagon... I won't notice them. I won't take any myself, but I won't complain. But I will NOT let you rob these people of their livelihood and lie to them about it. GOT IT?!" Both Erevan and Dag were uncharacteristically cowed by this and backed down. I asked Jim why Toran was willing to tolerate even a small amount of theft. He replied, "Like Toran said, he's a realist. He knows people don't change in a day, and he won't be able to change them into saints. But maybe he can convince them to be... a little better." I was impressed. Because, after all, they could maybe have filched some with Toran none the wiser. But now I know that Erevan won't, in a weird point of honor, and I don't think Dag will either.
