You know, as much as I love my character Kebur, if I wanted to play him in a Pen and Paper (PnP) game, I'd practically have to strip him naked! ;) I used to play NWN solo before getting on this PW. The solo modules I got through (many made by Chris Huntoon; never played Bioware's campaigns) had very little loot and I was lucky if I made more money out of an adventure than I spent on potions and scrolls.. Not that I cared, because they were so much fun! So you can imagine how baffled I was when I started playing Path of Ascension (PoA), with money on the ground and weapons +1 under boulders! ;) After a time, I realized that NWN isn't D&D. It's good, but it doesn't play the same. And specifically, PoA is Monty Haulish! No one can deny that! It's not that I want more stuff, but rather I feel like I need to, just to survive... ;) When I think in PnP terms, I feel like I have way too much equipment in my inventory! But when I compare myself to others my level on PoA, I feel severly underequiped... I mean, my favored weapons are only +1 with minor effects and my plate is still +1. I feel munchkiny walking around with all those immunities. But can someone survive in PoA without them? It seems like the designer of the modules created every areas knowing what kind of gear the PCs would have access to, and expected them to have it. I definitely agree with that! And as it is now, I definitely don't want to die. :) I know it bugs you having all this loot around and people carrying 100k or 1 million gp and having this uber-equipment. As a DM, I'd probably agree. But I've been playing long enough on PoA to feel it's all part of a certain balance. If you want to tone down the money and equipment, you will probably have to make some changes to most (if not all) areas as well. Gold is used mainly to buy more stuff, but it's also needed just to go around. A "to/from" trip to Anduin Ruins is 5k gp and to the Catacombs is 10k gp. That used to be a problem for me, and many times I didn't even make that much while I was there... (Not anymore though.) Anyway, just my opinion and I hope I'm not overstepping myself...
