HI all, I need some help. I am writing up some long-term goals for a campaign, and I need help deciding on a BBEG. Here’s the story… Hundreds of years ago, there was a great evil dragon, which as it approached death from old age used its magic to become a lich. Eventually, the lich was defeated by a rival evil power and its essence was trapped in a gem. The Lich sat in solitude, slowly going mad and constantly making plans. Finally, after hundreds of years, an (Evil) halfling rogue found the phylactery stone and immediately swallowed it. The lich was then able to possess / blend with the Halfling. It changed him in many horrific ways. The Halfling headed back to the nearest city and set about making himself the king of the thieves’ guild. Now, all that happened when I was running the adventure “Of Sound Mind”. Now, this is a new campaign in the same home brew world and I want to get the nostalgia factor by having this Halfling (named Fern) be a really frightening BBEG in the thieves guild. So, I am begging all you Enworlders, help me make this BBEG! I have decided that I don’t care about the fact that he used to be a Halfling rogue. I am happy to give him any class / race people suggest. I am aiming for around a CR 12 or so. So far I have thought of… 1) Make him a Bard 6, Disciple of Mammon (BoVD) 7. That gives him lots of skills and the ability to steal, lie, and “enhance the value” of items. All things that would get you ahead in the guild. Also, I would change all references to singing some kind of darkspeech (Not as it is in the BoVD, more like it is in LoTR). 2) Go Rogue / Assassin. Good in a fight, but it lacks some of the creepy feel. 3) Go Cleric 6 or 7 / Cancer Mage 5 or 6. Great “Eeeew” factor, and cool abilities for a guild lord. 4) Use the Corrupted creature template somehow. 5) Something much cooler that Enworld will tell me about! Ok, so last thing, here’s the portrait I have chosen out for this guy. . . [sblock][/sblock] So, please, lend me your collective brain cells! What’s the scariest, most creepy BBEG you can make to fit this role?! -Tatsu
