Hey, Im a DM running a Modern d20 Campaign, LOTR RPG, and SWRPG, and was thinking about starting up a Spycraft 60's Campaign when the LOTR one is done. Is it worth buying?

I would say it is with one caveat: when is your campaign ending? If it's going to be a while, you may want to hold out for the new edition, as there is talk of such coming out in '05.

It is an excellent game, IMO. The system is specifically tuned to over-the-top spy action and has several qualities that have been emulated in later products, especially the innovative chase system. The classes are designed with a consistent baseline (something that general d20 seems to lack), and are also specifically designed to provide competant characters. The team aspect is strong, and the classes are designed with team play in mind, something that cannot be said of many post-D&D d20 games.

60's is one of the better supplements. It handles the issue of playing in history very well, and the espionage environments are a neat contribution to gaming in general. In short, they let the outcome of the characters' activities influence the rules of the game!

I agree with what Psion said 100%. Spycraft is very cool. Unfortunately, I have to sell my Spycraft collection as it is just gathering dust. Who knew that Florida would be such a gamer wasteland? :( If you are interested in a great deal on a lot of Spycraft stuff, Look Here

Yep... great game and I agree with Psion and Morpheus a 101% :)

It is somewhat sad the Shadowforce Archer series is being discontinued but the system remains very... elegant IMO. The chase system, that Psion referred to has been a source of much fun in games I've ran in the past and just one of the reasons why I would like to play it again for my group. But at least I am able to run a game of it here on the pbp forums:)

If you think you and your group might like the spy genre I'd say its worth it.

The Chase system is great. What I think really got me into Spycraft was half and full actions. When 3e first came out, I was having some difficulty with full, partial, move equivalent, free and special actions. Spycraft cleared that right up with two types of actions: Half and full. Want to shoot someone? Half action. Want to use automatic fire? Full action. Simple and easy to use.

Would you be interested in trading for any of those items?

It's what sold me too. Half and full action. The End.

The myriad types of actions in 3E (and tyhe limits placed on them) were damnably confusing to me.

Spycraft got it right. Want to shoot? Half action. Want to shoot twice? Two half actions. Move? half action. All actions were either Full or half and you could mix and match the halfs as you pleased to use up your turn.
