Pogue’s Gallery 01 Greater Guardian Door Here is the door that was kicking the party’s rearends. Guardian Door (Greater): CR 4; Large Construct; HD 4d10; hp 22; Init +0; Spd 30 feet; AC 14 (-1 size, +5 natural); Atk +5 melee (1d8+4, slam); SA Hiss; SQ Construct, discern intent, hardness:10, darkvision: 60 ft.; AL N; SV Fort +1, Ref +1, Will –2; Str 16, Dex 10, Con -, Int -, Wis 7, Cha 3. Special Qualities and Attacks:Hiss (Sp): Four times per day, the greater guardian door may emit a mist of poisonous black mist in a 25’ cone before the door. Each person in this area is affected as a power word, stun spell, and must make a Fortitude save (DC 14) against the poison or suffer 1d4 points of temporary Con damage. Discern Intent (Sp): Usable at will; allows the guardian door to question someone to determine his or her general intention and ascertain, from their verbal responses given, whether the subject is lying (as the discern lies spell). The guardian door may be fooled by a successful Bluff check against a DC 22+ (2* guardian door’s HD). If the intent determined matches that the door expects, it will open for the person. This person may escort others past the door. Climate/Terrain: Any Organization: Solitary Advancement Range: 5-7 HD (Large). Construction Creating a greater guardian door costs 60,000 gp. Assembly of the door requires successful Craft (metalwork) and Craft (woodwork) skill checks. After assembling the physical door, the creator must perform a complex magical ritual. Understanding this ritual requires a 13th-level creator with the Craft Wondrous Item feat capable of casting divine spells and War domain spells. The creator must work at least eight hours each day in a specially prepared laboratory (500 gp to establish) and engage in no other activities besides eating, sleeping, and talking during this process. Completing the ritual drains 1200 XP from the creator and requires air walk, animate objects, discern lies, freedom of movement, geas/quest, power word, stun, prayer, resurrection, and tongues. A poison special attack also requires poison. These spells are cast on the final day of the ritual, and the XP is drained at this time.
