What I consider the standard array for a high-powered campaign, or 32 points buy (and +9 in modifiers) is 16, 14, 14, 14, 10, 10. Granted there are a number of ways to massage these numbers and I'm sure some others can "point" them out <img src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f609.png" class="smilie smilie--emoji" loading="lazy" width="64" height="64" alt=";)" title="Wink ;)" data-smilie="2"data-shortname=";)" /> but I'm just trying to illustrate the differences between them in a way to suggest that the growth from first level to second should probably best not be expressed in an ability score increase lest it be too much of an adjustment. Leave 1st-level character generation as is and perhaps look toward equipment as something easier to adjust, if you truly feel the disparity is enough to warrant some adjustment.
