I never used to, but in the last year & a half (meaning three or four games) I've been using them, plus those maps in Dungeon, and some Dwarven Forge stuff. I like it.

I always wondered how people play games w/o battlemats or graph paper and pogs/minis of some sort. How do you keep track of things like range and areas of effect?

If it helps, we always used to just wing it. Of course, that meant things like range and areas of effect were pretty rough, and generally involved persuading the DM that something could reach the "X" doodled on the scrap of paper that we were using to show about where people were.

My group uses a battlemat and minis for the PC's and major NPCs. Counters are used to represent cannon fodder errr I mean 'other NPCs.'

We use minis and a battlemat. From what I've seen, it speeds up combat, helps in visualization, and leads to less rules questions.
