Take out the sexual attractiveness, and men will not want to have sex with women they rescue in those adventure situations either. Well, now we can start bringing other qualities into it. But different women are interested in different qualities in the long-term. For some women, this may include "being absolutely self-reliant in every way", but I think most women could find themselves settling down with someone that met their other criteria but were "Somewhat ineffective" due to criteria that the particular woman in question doesn't find relevant (pacifism, etc.). But note again, the same answer would work for the man. Kirk hardly ever settled down with any of these alien women. Very picky that way, our Kirk. <img src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/joypixels/assets/8.0/png/unicode/64/1f642.png" class="smilie smilie--emoji" loading="lazy" width="64" height="64" alt=":)" title="Smile :)" data-smilie="1"data-shortname=":)" />

So I think that the analysis so far ignores the fact that in the literature the women being rescued look like absolute babes (by the social standard of "absolute babeness" but that's another thread).
What is this Earth...kiss? I am thinking of Captain Kirk. He falls for alien maidens all the time, often rescuing them, but it is almost always a "love 'em and leave em" proposition. So maybe the question should be divided: a) "Would a woman mind having sex with a sexually attractive man that she rescued?" (We can make him "somewhat ineffective" either by luck, or by pacifism, or what have you, if the muscles are what turn the particular woman on). The answer would be by definition yes, because we have defined the man as sexually attractive to her. Take out the sexual attractiveness, and men will not want to have sex with women they rescue in those adventure situations either. Would Kirk fall in lust with women he rescues that he does not find sexually attractive? No. Would a woman fall in lust with a man she rescues if she didn't find him attractive? No. (Note: the sexual attractiveness doesn't have to be just visual -- use whatever works for you for "hotness" and ask whether you really care whether you rescued the person or not, whether the person was somewhat ineffectual or not.) b) "would a woman want to settle down semi-permanently with a sexually attractive man that she rescued?" Well, now we can start bringing other qualities into it. :) So I think that the analysis so far ignores the fact that in the literature the women being rescued look like absolute babes (by the social standard of "absolute babeness" but that's another thread). If the men being rescued are absolute sexual magnets (depending on what turns the particular woman on, one can vary the particular qualities of the particular magnet) then a one-night stand might become tempting, particularly in a fantasy world with few if any consequences for one-night stands. And for a one-shot (bad pun) adventure, why not? But the morning after...well then the other qualities come into it. So for long-term settling down, a totally ineffectual person might not be a good catch for either gender. A somewhat ineffectual person might be a good catch for a particular person, depending on how much of priority the particular qualities in which the person is somewhat ineffective are to the rescuer. So either way, it is not the "Being rescued" part that seems relevant, but other qualities, that in the short-term pale in comparison to the "sex appeal" factor, and in the long-term depend on the individual. Taking it from the other side, I certainly would not object to falling in lust or love with a woman that rescued me. In fact, if any woman in the Vancouver BC area wants to rescue me from boredom, let me know. ;)
