Polynesian/Hawai-like rpg settings

First Post
One or two years ago there was a long thread on ENworld as an attempt to create a d20 "Polynesian/Hawai" type of setting. Since I don't have the access to the Search function, I cannot find it.

At the time the discussion was about converting D&D to such a culture, but it was eventually abandonned, as it represented too much work (and IMO, D&D is not appropriate, even with adaptation, to represent a Polynesian Hawai world). However, I thought that True20 would be a much better fit, and would require little conversion work. So my interest in finding that thread back...

Thanks.

We're developing some rules for a small supplement along those lines at Crunch-Waffle, if you are interested in trying some newish game rules. We need some more game testers to make it work.

Sound of Azure is developing a world based on SE Oceanic Asia called... Selene? (hope I got that one right :heh: but I don't think I did) which can be found on the boards. It's actually really interesting, and similar to what you're looking for :)

In fact, for RPGing Polynesia, my system of choice would be True20, not d20. Paladins, clerics, druids, bards, wizards with spellbooks, etc. don't mesh well (and in fact they don't mesh at all) with (what I know of) Polynesian / Hawaiian mythology. However, it seems to me that True20 would be a much better fit.

This "Selene" world is intriguing. I will try to get a look.

There's a guy (Tonguez, maybe?), who runs this sort of setting with D&D. I'm sure he'll pop into this thread soon.
That is certainly the guy you'd want to ask any questions you might have.

Thanks for the links! :)

Well, obviously it isn't about Hawaian/Polynesian mythology, but South East Asia. Anyway, I have found the thread I was originally searching for. Not sure I will do something with it though... :\
No problem and good luck with you game :D Hopefully you can utilize somehting form those anyways, since there would be some similarities regardless (or at least neat-o island-y hooks and such)

cheers,
