Possible evidence that grid module exists in some form?

This post, by the talented sculptor/owner of the Dwarven Forge products, states he is going to WOTC to play 5e next week, and he is bringing some Dwarven Forge terrain. For those that do not know, Dwarven Forge is a highly detailed resin modular square-gridded terrain system.

His post:

I'll be flying out to Seattle next week to playtest it using some Dwarven Forge terrain...so I remain optimistic...at the very least, it is still friendly for miniatures...
It may be a stretch, but to me this is evidence of the existence of at least a rudimentary grid combat system, otherwise why would he be going and bringing gridded terrain? I'm hoping the playtest release next month includes some optional modules to play around with, and this may be one?

I've never doubted that using a grid will be an option. It's always been an option. Theater of the mind combat can always be represented using a grid. What I have concerns about is whether there will be rules that truly embrace grid-based combat, and uses it to produce a game with the kind of tactical depth 4E has.

They've been pretty clear that gridded combat will be an optional rules module. They've said that two or three times now, quite explicitly. No real need to speculate on this particular subject.
