My current character sold his soul when he was six years old for some trivial childish reason he doesn't remember. He was a noble beforehand. He doesn't remember what he asked for, but he does remember spending three weeks in hell, before being shunted out into the planes and into a small village of dirt farmers. A drunk old ex-pirate (the party fighter/cleric) took him in and raised him as his boy and as a dirt farmer. The party (dirt farmers) got shunted to another plane due to an NPC finding a gate underneath our dirt farm 30 years later, on the new plane we adventure out of necessity, a growing fondness for wealth, and a search for eternal youth. The party, including my character's dad, aren't aware that my character is covered, except for face, hands, and feet, with infernal tattooes. My character has no infernal powers, just simply the foreknowledge that he's going back to hell when he dies. My character's primary motivation is avoiding death at all costs, although he's hoping that if his dad can actually find the fountain of youth, he might be able to achieve immortality himself too, and thus avoid hell. My bard -- Dudley -- is chaotic evil, though he's fiercely loyal to his family and friends from where he was raised. He's just willing to do anything to help them, without any remorse whatsoever. Primarily, this has only hurt him -- the party unwittingly saved a tiny redcap from bandits, after we let him lose, Dudley and his dad snuck after the redcap to throw rocks at him because he was small -- but then the redcap grew to eight feet tall and beat on him, took some blood, and went skipping away again. So, Dudley has after that kept his mean streak in check, given that the next screwup he makes might actually kill him.
