Ok, one of my druid PCs IMC wants to Awaken himself. Step 1: Take Natural Spell Feat Step 2: Wildshape into an animal. Pg 37 PH says that Wildshape functions like Polymorph. Pg 263, Polymorph spell description says that the "subject's creature type and subtype change to match the new form." Therefore, while in wildshape, a human druid is considered an animal instead of a humanoid. Step 3: Cast Awaken on yourself. Awaken Target: Animal or tree touched Duration: Instantaneous So by using the logic presented here, a druid can cast awaken on him/herself. Now it gets even better. Step 4: Druid wildshapes back to human form Type=Humanoid Step 5: Druid wildshapes to animal, Casts Awaken again The reason that you cannot cast awaken on an Animal more than once is that it turns into a magical beast, per the spell description. Since wildshape skirts this implicit prohibition, technically you can awaken yourself again and again! Beyond dealing with an obvious flaw in the rules, I have created the Druid Wildshape smackdown, which I will post in good time. With 133 Hit Dice and a Charisma over 300, awaken is great for those Mystic Wanderer/Contemplatives with Mysticism Domain for Charisma to Ac and saves respectively. The above is with only 1 levels worth of awaken at 16th level. Anyway, something to think/post about
