Hola trance,

I have an inordinate fondness for flowcharts. There are about 9 pages of flowcharts in the Second World Sourcebook. I loved the flowcharts in those old games like Aftermath and Gamma World; the new versions of flowcharts in games like Feng Shui and Exalted are very cool and make character construction a more visual process. And I was almost ready to give diceless roleplaying a third try with the Theatrix flowcharts.

Steve is the Demon Prince of Flowcharts.

BTW, I like how you've integrated the Modern and standard d20 rules in the finished adventure. It's a nice preview of what's coming.

Now if I could just arrange a deal with the Demon Lord of Venn Diagrams we could have really cool books...

The more I work with d20 Modern the more I like it. When I first got hold of the rules they didn't feel terribly special, certainly not like the drastic changes in Third Edition. But mixing and matching basic classes to make characters in d20 Modern is a lot of fun. I'm also a Defense bonus convert now; for instance, if D&D eventually goes the defense bonus route it will be easier to run either a low magic or high magic game.

One thing I like about d20 Modern is that you can make distinctive characters without relying on nifty supernatural powers. Most modern games I've played rely on skill sets to distinguish characters and the numbers are too dry to make characters feel really different. I think d20 Modern characters with CoC d20 monsters would do a great job of balancing out the gamemaster's desire for badass villains and the players' desires for badass heroes.

In other news: The Second World Sourcebook is in! It ships to distributors next week and should be in stores shortly after. Playtesters and artists will get their copies post-haste.

Excellent! Which reminds me, I have to get back to work on playtesting the Arcane book.
