[PR] Party of One: the most fun you can have by yourself!

Expeditious Retreat Press is happy to announce its newest product line-- Party of One: the most fun you can have by yourself!

The Party of One line will take you back to the days of your youth, when you anxisously thumbed to page 96 if you wanted to go right or page 32, if you wanted to go left. Focused for the adult reader (get yer heads otta the gutter, we just mean over 18 and the characters aren't all kids :) ) Party of One can be compared to an interactive story hour, where YOU make the choices.

All Party of One PDFs are hyperlinked for easy on screen reading (and harder cheating?). No more papercuts, your thumbs will thank you.

Drop by our web site www.exp.citymax.com and check out the product line. Say hello to us on our boards as well. We like that. :)

Sounds cool! Are they going to be designed in such a way that a person can play through them more than once, or is it pretty much one main story with minor variations?

It is pretty much one main story with variations. I woudn't call them minor, but as all four of the books are going to be interlinked we can't have any major variations. There are sections that thread to only one decision so if you never make that decision you wont get certain information.

The way it will work is pretty cool. You'll get a character, in the first book its Leda (elf wiz1/rog1) and you'll go from there. Encounters will be based upon the D20 rules such as:

**Leda continues along the corridor, trying to move as silently as she can.
[roll Leda's listen check (d20+8)]
If Leda's listen check is less than 19, go to 124.
If Leda's listen check is 19 or higher, go to 53**

This way certain paths are determined by rolls based upon the character's abilities while other paths would be based upon choice.

All combats have the option of letting you do what you want (ie. free form combat) Each combat will have a combat appendix with the starting conditions, combatants statistics, etc. Everything you'd need to run a combat. You'll also have the option of "reading along" as we run the combat for you while you make rolls or decisions about how you'll handle your turn based upon the information we provide.

We're also including all the NPCs and information concerning the environment so if someone wants to use the information for other purposes they can.

And everything is OGC. Even the "flavor text." :)

That is a great idea

My wife, taking time from writing Leda to read this, says "Of course it is, I thought of it." She's the modest one in the relationship..... :) But really, we think a lot of people will enjoy these books. Thanks for your interest.
