Message: <blockquote data-quote="The Sigil" data-source="post: 175887" data-attributes="member: 2013">Anecdote...Perhaps this should go in the "funniest moment" thread on the General RPG Discussion, but I think it's too good to let go without commenting on it.This was from the playtest of the Burning Sage's Demense when the party ran into Skizix (the troll)...Me (DM): "Suddenly, the door behind you bursts open and a huge, hulking form, one of the ugliest creatures you've ever seen, leaps into the room, growling at you."*Initiative Rolls; PC Wizard gets the highest roll*PC Wizard: "I Quick-Draw my sword and step up to the thing and slice it open!"PC Ranger and Cleric/Ftr: "What?!?!?"Me (incredulous): "Umm... okay, roll the dice..."*He misses*PC Ranger (next highest initiative roll; recognized the beast as a troll): "I stay a step or two back and hurl a flask of alchemist's fire."*Dice are rolled, he misses, but hits the troll with the splash damage*PC Ftr/Cleric: "I cast bless on the party."*Troll now has initiative*DM: "The troll attacks... ouch... ouch... ouch... (grimaces, rolls once more)... ugh...  (to Wizard) how many hit points did you have?" (Troll hit with claw/claw/rend and bite routine - including two criticals - to the tune of 58 points of damage)PC Wizard (proudly): "26!"DM: "The troll grabs your arms at the shoulders, bites your head, then rips your body completely in half, snapping your ribs like you snap a chicken's wishbone.  You are VERY dead."PC Rogue (stunned): "It's my turn, right?"DM: "Yeah..."*a couple of rounds later and the ranger and ftr/clrc are in close combat with the troll and getting the crap beat out of them... the rogue has hung back and tried - mostly ineffectively - to pepper the troll with arrows*PC Ftr/Clrc: "Dude, get in here and flank this guy... we can use your sneak attack bonus!"PC Rogue (some of the best Role-Playing I have ever seen - the text doesn't do it justice...): "Are you kidding?  I saw what he did to the wizard!  I'm not getting near him!"Probably wasn't as funny in text as it was in person.PUNCH LINE 2:  For anyone who has ever seen the Mystery Science Theater 3000 version of "attack of the pod people" (I think that's the one), where Tom Servo is cracking "You know what playing is, right Trumpy?"  followed by "Yes, it's where I break you in half," everyone in our party constantly told the wizard the following for the rest of the campaign (another 6 months)...PC 1: "You know what playing is, right trolly?"PC 2: "Yes, it's where I tear you in half."Wizard: "Shut up, guys, that was 4 levels ago...
