PRC and item creation

I am certain that this has been asked but i dont have the search function available to me.

If you are a 5th wizard/3rd PrC (this is just a example) and the PRC gives you +1 caster level to arcane class..are you considered 8th level spellcaster for purposes of making magic items? Or is the PRC just like adding a new class and you start over with caster level for making items?

I understand that if you are 5th wizard/4th cleric then you are considered 5th caster for making magic items. I dont agree with this but I understand it.

Since the PrC adds to your "spellcaster level," levels in that PrC are counted when determining the effects of/eligibility for item creation feats. So yes, a Wiz5/PrC3, where the PrC is a +1 existing spellcaster level class, will be considered an 8th-level wizard for purposes of item creation.

Yes, a class that gives "+1 caster level" does stack with the base class. If you have 6 levels in Wizard and 4 in Elemental Savant, you cast spells and create items at 10th caster level.

A Wiz6/Clr4 multiclass works differently because they are two separate spellcasting abilities. You have caster level 6 for wizard spells, and caster level 4 for cleric spells. Since you can't cast any spells at 10th caster level, you can't create items at that power either.
