This is a PrC that a player and I are working on for a plane-hopping game that we hope will get off the ground. We'd like feedback and comment on balance and such - is it too good? Not good enough? Planar Envoy There are some wizards who treat outsiders and elementals as their own personal servants, to be enslaved and bound to their wishes. But there are others who tread more lightly around such creatures, who bargain with them as respected equals, and seek their power based on cooperation and not domination. These wizards are the planar envoys. Hit Dice: d4. Requirements To become a planar envoy, the character must fulfill the following criteria: Skills: Diplomacy 5 ranks, Knowledge (the planes) 5 ranks. Spells: Able to cast 3 Conjuration (summoning) spells, at least one of which is 4th level. Special: must have visited another plane and made peaceful contact with a powerful outsider (at least 8 HD) there. Class Skills The planar envoy's class skills (and thekey ability for each) are: Bluff (Cha), Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Diplomacy (Cha), Knowledge (arcana)(Int), Knowledge (the planes)(Int), Profession (Wis), Scry (Int), Sense Motive (Wis), Speak Language (Int) Skill Points at Each Level: 2 + Int bonus. BAB: as Wizard Saves: as Wizard 1 - Lesser Allies From Afar 2 - Tongue of Angels 3 - Plane shift 1/day 4 - Planar Survival 5 - Allies from Afar 6 - More Allies 7 - Planar Inquiry 8 - Telepathy 9 - Greater Allies From Afar 10 - Gate Class Features All the following are class features of the planar envoy prestige class. Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Planar envoys gain no proficiency with any weapons or armor. Spellcasting: Planar envoys continue their study of spellcasting. Thus, they advance in caster level, spells known, and spells per day as if they had gained a level in a spellcasting class that they belonged to previous to becoming a planar envoy. They do not gain any other benefits of those levels. Lesser Allies From Afar (Sp): At first level, the planar envoy may use lesser planar ally once per week. Tongue of Angels (Ex): Starting at 2nd level, the planar envoy gains a bonus to all Charisma checks when dealing with outsiders or elementals. This bonus is equal to half of his class level. Plane Shift: At third level, the planar envoy can use plane shift as a spell-like ability once per day. This ability functions as if cast by a sorcerer of the planar envoy's highest caster level. Planar survival (Ex): A planar envoy of 4th level or higher can attune himself to the natur eof the plana around him, granting him immunity from the detrimental effects of that plane. Any effect that would be negated by the avoid planar effects spell is negated by the planar survival ability as well. Allies From Afar (Sp): At 5th level, the planar envoy's ability to call allies has improved, and he is able to use planar ally in place of lesser planar ally. This ability replaces Lesser Allies From Afar. More Allies (Sp): At 6th level, the planar envoy gains the ability to use his 'Allies from Afar' ability an additional time per week. Planar Inquiry (Sp): Once per week, a planar envoy of 7th level or higher may try to gain the answer to a question or questions through his information network on the planes. This is treated as a contact other plane spell cast by a sorcerer of the planar envoy's highest caster level, with the exception that the envoy's Charisma bonus is used instead of his Intelligence. The Charisma bonus from Tongue of Angels also applies to this ability. Telepathy (Su): The planar envoy can communicate telepathically with anything that has a language within 100 feet. Greater Allies From Afar: At 9th level, the planar envoy's ability to call allies has improved again, and he is able to use greater planar ally in place of planar ally. This ability replaces Allies From Afar and may be used with the same frequency. Gate: At 10th level, the planar envoy may create a gate once per week, as if it were a spell cast by a sorcerer of the envoy's highest caster level. Well, sirs, what do you think? We tried to keep the frequency of the special abilities down, since the class has full spellcasting progression. It allows access to some stuff that's traditionally cleric-only, but they will get it a couple of levels after the cleric and be able to use it a lot less often.
