This was written by one of my players and amended slightly by me. He wants to play a serious old-style knight in shining armour, but doesn't like the rather formal and religious offerings from S&F. Therefore, we present: Cavalier The cavalier is the classic mounted soldier, the knight of the medieval battlefield and the questing knight of Mallory. The Cavalier will follow a code of ethics, which might be secular rather than religious. The adventuring Cavalier might seek to uphold a chivalric code with the pursuit of honour and glory in battle as the main object opposed to the mere pecuniary rewards of such a life. Their single mindedness in such things makes them less susceptible to those magical effects which affect the mind Level Attack Fort Ref Will Special 1 +1 +2 +0 +2 Special Lance damage 2 +2 +3 +0 +3 Ride by attack 3 +3 +3 +1 +3 Expertise Feat 4 +4 +4 +1 +4 Inspire 5 +5 +4 +1 +4 Mount Speed +5 6 +6 +5 +2 +5 Spirited Charge 7 +7 +5 +2 +5 Special Mount 8 +8 +6 +2 +6 Leadership 9 +9 +6 +3 +6 Immunity to Fear 10 +10 +7 +3 +7 Mount Speed +10 Class Features Skills Int+2 / level Dedication to fighting leaves little room for other studies but skills that might be learned are: Appraise (horse), Diplomacy, Handle Animal (horse), Intimidate, Ride Weapon and Armour restrictions Missile weapons are severly frowned upon. While having a role on the battlefield, they will be spurned for personal use. Armour is very much the badge of honour and the more expensive and showy the better. Magical bonus has no influence in the choice of armour, for example Banded Mail would be preferred to +3 Chainmail. Full Plate is the pinnacle of ambition. Special Abilities Special Lance damage: When using a lance in a mounted charge the Cavalier has a +1/ class level bonus to damage. Inspire: While visible to any allies the Cavalier confers his/her charisma bonus as a bonus to any saves vs fear. This bonus always applies to the Cavalier himself. Spirited Charge: as the feat Special Mount: At 8th level the Cavalier is able to ride other creatures like Pegasii or Hippogriffs without penalty, of course catching and breaking one is another matter... Leadership: as the feat Immunity to Fear: at 9th level the Cavalier becomes immune to all fear effects Mount Speed: Relates to ground speed only. Requirements Diplomacy: 4 Ranks Ride: 8 ranks Feats: Mounted Combat; Weapon Focus (Lance) Attack Bonus: +5 Proficiencies: All armour, simple and martial weapons Misc: The character must employ an NPC squire to care for his horse and arms. Hit Die: d10 [edit] - Grrr... Justification all shot to heck!
