PrCs continuing "minor" spellcasting?

So we have all these PrCs which continue "one level of existing spell progression per X". Leaving aside issues of arcane vs divine, none of these are going to be a good option for the truely minor casters - rangers and palidans. So how hard would it be to have a class with, say, fighter BAB, and continued spellcasting progression ONLY for the minor casters? (personally I think Deep Woods Sniper from MotW should have added ranger casting ranks rather than throwing in some odd spell like abilities.) What would happen if a major caster, or a non caster took those classes?

ANy thoughts, anyone done this already?

Spellcasting
+1/2 Spellcaster level

Spellcasting: The (insert Prc) increases in spell-casting ability of their existing class. They gain +1/2 spell-caster level per level. If their existing class had a spell caster level equal to half their class level (ranger, palidin et cetera) then the (insert Prc)'s level is added to the original class level to determin spells per day, spells known et cetera. If the existing class increases in spell caster level every level then add 1/2 the (insert Prc) level to their level, rounded down. (insert other things like spell lists or such, and the rest of the absurdly long 'advancing existing spellcasting' description which should hopefully just read "as described in the DMG" in 3eR).

While Destil's idea seems fine, keep in mind that there's no "et cetera" in that class list; only Rangers and Paladins work that way. The other two hybrid spellcasters, Bards and Psychic Warriors, get full caster level, so you'd still need some fix for them.

There are PrCs out there that explicitly say things like "Your spellcasting increases as if you had gained a level of Psychic Warrior". You might just want to go with that. If you want it more generic, you could try the +1/2 level thing and just say "If you're a Ranger, Paladin, Bard, or Psychic Warrior you gain a full level of spellcasting", but then you get balance headaches.
