Hello gunheory, hello Dave I hope you will not tear me to shreds because of my critic :) If your world does not have the paladin core class this PrC is nearly restricted to clerics only. This PrC looks to me like a bad imitation of the paladin. :( An Improvement for a cleric. :) Same die as a paladin. This means at least cleric level 7. All clerics are proficient with shields, so you can drop this requirement. Weapon Focus: Which Domains does Kryphon have ? The War domain ? Is the Mace (light or heavy) favorite weapon of Kryphon ? Many players of clerics will take the weapon focus anyway, so this is an easy requirement. This means Cleric level 5. A cleric needs a high rank in Knowledge (Religion) This means Cleric level 5 Because of the BAB the Cleric has to be either: a level 7 cleric or level 5 cleric Fighter 2. or Level 5 cleric with some Levels of any class which provides a +2 on the BAB The requirements are "easy": (IMHO too easy) - Nearly each cleric of Kryphon can meet this requirements at no real costs. - No needed "I call it penalty" -feat :) like skill focus....or something like that. - Only one skill which needs high ranks. Same as Paladin. An Improvent for a single class cleric, he gains proficiences: Martial weapons. You can drop "with all types of armor (heavy, medium, and light), and with shields." Each cleric is proficient with them already. Do you really think a high level druid or ranger will take this PrC ? :) Same as the ability from the core class paladin. This ability is IMHO crap. To use this ability a Honor must be already in a melee. He can not use this ability to watch a fight from the outside. So a Honor must forsake for two rounds all of his melee attacks (very worse if he has more than one attack) and certainly gets wounded. The following examples do not include bonus from high strength, feats, magical items, etc. e.g. A Cleric7/Honor1 is in melee combat with one Fighter level 8. To use patient observtion he must forsake 4 Attacks (2x +6/+1 without strength modifier, feats or magical items), he certainly gets several wounds from the 2 x (+8/+3) attacks from his enemy, and the Honor gets in the third round from patient observation only one attack (not an additional) with base attack + Honor level... Because of Concentration as Class skill (and being a cleric who needs a high ranks in concentration) the Honor certainly will succeed in the required concentration checks. IMHO this ability is not very balanced. To use this ability a Honor must give up at least 2 attacks which will certainly hit the enemy (2x +6) to gain one attack which will hit with a little higher damage. The Honor can use this ability in every situation because it very certain with high ranks in concentration he will succed the checks. Think about a fight of a Honor against one Level 8 Fighter and one sneaking Level 8 rogue. The Fighter will certainly hit the Honor, but the Honor succed the required checks. If the rogue sneaks the Honor, hits, making a high damage roll, the Honor has chance not to succed his required check. Shield of Faith is also a first level cleric spell. The spell grants at higher level a better bonus to AC. Does the bonus of this ability stack with the spell of the same name ? Can this bonus be negated ? IIRC a deflection bonus normally can be negated if the target is flat-footed. I would recommend to rename the ability. :) A Honor certainly will use the shield of faith spell instead.... Any range restictions ? Any maximum HPs transfered , except the down to 1 hp rule ? Can a Honor make as his move equivalent action: transfer all hps to a friend (except one) and then cast "heal" on himself ? A horrible idea, to use this ability to imitate a heal spell. If a Honor can use this ability and cast any cure spell on himself in one combat round this ability is too powerful. It is already too powerful if there is no restriction in range. I like the idea of the quest, but I dislike the idea of giving a magical item as an ability in a PrC. IIRC in A&D a paladin needed a quest to find his holy weapon. I really like the idea of this ability but this is a) a one time use ability, b) even with the drawback too powerful at that level and b) a good ability for NPCs. a) If you use this ability you will automatically loose your PC (after palying at lest 12 level). b) To get this ability a Honor must be cleric7/Honor5, so the Honor has 9 level cleric. A single class Cleric at that level (level 12) can not cast a True resurrection.. This PrC looks to me like you are taking 5 level Paladin Core Class, droping divine grace, replacing some abilities with other abilities, improving the spell casting of the paladin to +1 spell casting ability. Just my 2 cents yennico
