Preferred loadout for a fire-themed evoker?

Morrus

Well, that was fun

Our campaign has reached 7th level (8th is a week or two away), and I'm enjoying my fire-themed evoker.

I've gone for a simple concept: quick off the draw, make things burn. Thrown in Elemental Spell so that I can take a lot of fire spells, but swtich 'em over to another energy type if I really need to (and have a day's warning - eyeing up that 3000gp rod; I'll probably retrain that feat once I have the rod!)

This setup also lets him deal out 10d6+3 fireballs, which is kinda his signature move, using Intense Spells, Spell Specializaton, Spellgifted, and Spell Focus: Evocation.

So what would you do next?

I'm really not sure which way you could go now, but I've got a question. How has the character been so far? I know you said you liked it, but I've always heard that "blaster" casters are not considered to be very good. How do you measure up in-game?

You should pick up Dazing Spell. Turns blast spells into control spells w/ the daze effect attached. Works best on ones that use reflex saves (if the spell has no save, like scorching ray, it uses will) since reflex is typically the only save that DOESN'T get "save or lose" options. Until you can afford to apply it to Ball Lightning, best choice is Flaming Sphere IMO. Move it on someone, daze him for 2 rounds, kill him (or have an ally bull rush him off of it), move it to someone else... Once you can add dazing to ball lightning you can really have some fun! It also works well with Aqueous Orb.

Try also getting a meta rod of it, as the +3 spell levels is a steep price to pay.

Seems fine. I don't feel underpowered at all.

Yeah, those rods are a godsend for metamagic. The spell level price is sometimes just too much to pay. The rods are expensive, though!
