I started a new PrC called the Crafter (ooooo how original:D), but it's unfinished. The Crafter is a special maker of magic. They have an ability to create items that most other casters can only dream of. They have learned the ancient, hidden secret magic that artifacts and relics are imbued with. It is a secret that is thought lost and Crafters would like to keep it that way. Only another Crafter can teach the secret art. It takes at least half a year to begin to learn the art. At the end of the training period, the new Crafter gains enough experience to raise him to halfway beyond his next level (i.e. a 10th level cleric would become a 10 Cleric/1 Crafter with experience halfway to his 2nd Crafter level, or 60,050 exp.). Prereq.:Knowledge (arcana) 6 ranks, Knowledge (religion) 4 ranks, any spellcaster 8+, any 3 item creation feats. Special: must be trained for 6 months by another Crafter Class Skills: Alchemy, Craft, Knowledge (Arcana), Knowledge (Religion), Profession, Scry, Spell Craft, Use Psionic Device, Use Magic Device, Concentration, Decipher Script, Appraise Skill Points: 4 + Int mod Wizard BAB and Saves. +1 level of existing class for each level of Crafter. This is about as far as I got, but I have ideas. Bonus Item Creation feats every 3 levels, starting at 1st. As for special abilities... At first level, they get the MoF feat that reduces the exp expenditure for item creation. Later on, they get an improved version of the feat. They can use UMD during item creation to cast spells they aren't familiar with. This is done on day 1 of item creation, and every day thereafter, a special spell (I don't know, call it Spell Weave) they know, is cast that starts the spell creation for that day. This means that the Crafter can make items without other casters around, and with but one scroll (assuming they make the UMD check). I haven't figured this out yet, but I also wanted to give them some sort of ability to manipulate the creation of intelligent items. One idea is to give them a bonus of 10 to any rolls on the chart (can use it as a -10 to), and increase this range eventually to 20 or so. That may be too high...like I said, these are ideas at this point...the character I was going to use this PrC for isn't used anymore, so I stopped working on it. At 10th level, I thought about allowing the Crafter to make ONE item where he could choose a few of the special abilities on the intelligent chart. What I had a hard time writing up is how to do stuff that's not in the books, like Artifacts. I wanted this PrC to be able to make an artifact, but only one at 10th level. I'll leave this as an exercise for the reader.:D I had more ideas, but I have since forgotten. Feel free to steal/use any of this if you like it. It's supposed to be a powerful PrC, not something every wizard goes for for the uber benefits. That's why it's kind of hard to qualify for it. Hope this helps.
