Prestige Class Question

Ok, I'm sort of a newbie, so I'm going to ask a newbie question. I looked around for a FAQ but didn't see one, so I hope you'll forgive if this is asked frequently. I understand the multi-class rules, but the prestige class rules have me confused. It says in the DMG that Prestige Classes obey the rules on multi-classing. Does this include experience penalties. For example, if I'm a human and go Cleric 3/Wizard 3/ Mystic Theurge 10, am I in the penalty zone for having that Prestige Class so far away from my base classes. What if I then add another prestige class so that I'm Cleric 3/ Wizard 3/ Mystic Theurge 10/ Spellsword 1 (or something)?

That's what I thought, but I saw the line about obeying Multi-class rules but couldn't find one saying they ignored experience penalties. Thanks for the reply.

There are no XP penalties for multiclassing into Prestige Classes. I can't find the quote at this moment, but it is the case.

Hi!

Perhaps you are looking for this?

Q: In the previous version of the D&D game, having levels
in a prestige class never caused you to pay the experience
penalty for being a multiclass character without uneven
class levels. (The prestige class levels didn’t count when
checking to see if you had a penalty.) The section on
prestige classes in the new Dungeon Master’s Guide no
longer mentions that you don’t suffer an experience penalty
for having levels in a prestige class. Is this a change or an
error?

A: It’s an error. Having levels in a prestige class won’t give
you an experience penalty

Kind regards
