Sunlessland, the eternal night. Few could guess that a land with so much darkness could harbor so much life. At first glance, it might seem like a plane too similar to Shadowfell, but don't be fooled because it is a place that has been able to host great civilizations. Native vegetation is truly unique in that it does not need sunlight, but it also cannot survive without its foliage, so scholars speculate that its leaves do not perform phosynthesis with sunlight, but with dark energy, that is, a type of radiation that cannot be detected by our senses. Unfortunately, it is not suitable for human consumption or for non-native herbivores due to allergy or toxicity issues, unless it has been genetically modified. Many plants could be used to create poisons if not for the fact that their unique composition makes them easy to identify, making it easier for researchers to trace their source. Agriculture in this plane is really peculiar because instead of planting in the ground, something similar to livestock farming is used, although using a native species similar to mud elementals. The seeds are scattered on the backs of these elementals, and then after a period of growth they are collected in a process similar to shearing sheep, without causing suffering to these elementals. Some homes grow a type of tentacle plant that tastes similar to meat. There is no sunlight or moon visible from the surface, although visibility is similar to a full-moon night. There are many star-like points of light in the sky, but this is deceptive. These lights originate from fluorescent crystals on the undersides of the countless floating islands. Many floating islands contain giant, spiral-cone-shaped buildings resembling helicoids, and can be large enough to house the population of an empire's capital with enough room for urban gardens. In the higher reaches, there is increasingly more light, but they are more dangerous to inhabit due to storms and other phenomena related to elemental planar gates. These planar rifts often produce effects similar to volcanic eruptions, so only shorter-lived humanoids or those who can afford immediate evacuation dare to live there. The floating islands in the higher reaches are highly valued for their mineral deposits, and many dragons sponsor kobold tribes for these mining operations.
