Printing quotes

BiggusGeekus

That's Latin for "cool"
I'm just trying to get a feel for printing costs. I have no idea about the terminology involved and I don't want to submit a quote request when I don't know what I'm asking for.

Anyone know of an on-line print quote calculator? You don't want to know what the dummies at Kinko's told me.

I would suggest heading over to RPG.net. There is a forum there called Bussiness/Publishing/Marketing.

Once there, look for a thread called "Consultancy for New Publishers." A few folks are offering their skills and advice to folks like yourself. The learning curve is pretty steep at first, but I think one of the people there might be of great help.

Interesting printing ompany

Here is the link to a small press publishing company with pretty damn decent prices http://www.spco-op.com. I recently recieved their package of samples and price listings and it is very nice. You sign an agreement to print at least 2000 copies in 365 days and pay 19 dollars to join the co-op. That 2000 copies could be one product or two. I calculated 1000 copies of a 32 page product with a color cover at about 1.27 each. You only have to sell 130 off a personal website in order to see a return on your initial start up fee. Not that bad for small press printing.
