Prismatic Sphere question....

roguebmk

First Post
I am DMing a group who recently encountered an interesting situation. The NPC they were fighting cast a prismatic sphere (full sphere and not a hemisphere) and the cleric of the group wants to go ethereal and go into the sphere. I say that if he does that he would be subject to effects of the sphere. He says that he would not be subject to them because PS does not state anything about extending onto the etheral plane. My arguement is that the PS blocks all magical effects that try to enter it and Etherealness is a magical effect. The only reason they are being held on the Ethereal plans is through the duration of the spell and when that spell ends they are pushed back to the material plane. So, I consider that an ongoing magical effect. What do you think?

First, I need to ask; The NPC wasn't standing on a solid surface, was he?

I'm inclined to agree.

Here's the "discussion killer"...

Gaze effects and abjurations also extend from the Material Plane to the Ethereal Plane.

...DMG, page 76, Etherealness. Hope that helps.

No, the NPC was levitating in the middle of the air when he cast the spell.

Cool. I was just thinking that maybe that was what started the argument or something.

Well, here's to Happy Gaming! :)
