Problem with experience!

I have a party (yes that's the same everytime ) of 5 6th level character. According to the monster manual, if they fight a Destrachan (chalenge rating monster), they will gain 720 XP each(3600 / 5).

My question is regarding RTTTOEE; in that adventure they meet 2 such beast, rated at EL 12. Does that means that they'll gain 2880 xp each (14400 / 5)??? That seams a little high for a single encounter.

ELs have nothing to do with experience awards. The EL of an encounter is just a planning tool to help you make sure you're not either killing your PCs, or making things a cakewalk.

Experience awards are always based on adding up the individual CRs of the monsters. In this case, the XP awarded is that for two destrachans, or 7200 XP divided by five characters (1440 XP each).
