Prophetic Magic Items

I'll be running an adventure soon where the PCs will each be given a magic item during a fortune telling encounter with a dwarf wizard. Each item will seem at first to have inconsequential powers but at the right time and in the right place, the item will allow them to overcome an obstacle, or defeat a villian or perhaps just give them an escape route.

One of the items I came up with will be a small brass bell, that when rung, will ring all bells in a 2 mile radius for one minute. This will come in to play when the PCs face off with a golem guardian that has a trigger to church bells.

I was hoping I could get some other ideas from these boards that would fit these criteria.

Thanks in advance.

A hand mirror that will show the image of anyone who was murdered unjustly in its reflection if the mirror's owner looks at it where the person was murdered. The mirror's owner may ask the reflection questions, which it will answer clearly and slowly, but as a reflection the mirror owner must read lips to understand it. Furthermore each question carries a price. The owner must answer a question from the reflection honestly clearly and loudly. Lying to the mirror carries...consequences as does whispering the answer.

How about a pipe that can do an obscuring mist-like effect 1/day.

I'm sure there could be a situation where this would come in handy. :)

another possible item is a pet rock/ioun stone with a hidden silence zone inside. it activates when a magical flute is played within 30' or so.

check out the Whispering Woodwind for the flute.

a dead magic net. it only works against dragonkin. problem is the net is only big enough to capture a Small creature. poor Meepo...

My players recently discovered a talking head-in-a-box.

The name of the head is Peisistratus the Profound. He was at one time a scholar in the employ of a powerful mage. In an effort to please his master, Peisistratus endeavored to learn the minutiae of every last detail of whatever subject the mage was studying at the time, which he then related to the wizard in an incessant barrage of chatter.

When the wizard finally lost his patience, he wrought a nasty spell, placing the Peisistratus' head in a box. Now whenever the wizard wanted to know a fact, he just opened the door and asked.

Conversations with Peisistratus about a scholarly subject have the affect of an Augury. Of course, a simple 'weal or woe' is not possible with Peisistratus. One must filter through a lot of babble to get to the truth. It is possible that at any time Peisistratus could utter something so profound, so insightful, that it could qualify as prophecy...if his audience has not shut the door in irritation that is.

Besides, I'm a firm believer that every party should have their own talking head-in-a-box

Oil of Cure Light Wounds - not particularily more useful for healing, but much better (than the potion) for hurting undead. (I can never get zombies to drink my CLW potions ;) )
