protect against area spells?

There are several options available to grant a wizard excellent protection from targeted spells (spell turning or absorption) but what can a wizard do to get a blanket protection from area spells? I appreciate your ideas.

You can't really pull off blanket protection against area spells other than using things like antimagic field, which has its own complications for a wizard. You could try to develop high SR, which would protect against some effects.

One partly effective method is casting blink. You automatically take 50% damage from area effects, so that's 25% on a save.

Lesser Globe of Invulnerability (1st to 3rd spells) and Globe of Invulnerability (4th and lower), Spell Resistance ( 12+ caster level), and to some extent Anti Magic Field.

You can get Spell Resistance for a Wizard/ Sorcerer by taking a PrC like Seeker of the Misty Isle or any other PrC that allows you to take a domain of your choosing from your God. Then make sure you have a god with the protection or magic domain.

Ring of Evasion.

Not really a useful combination with most arcane casters. Even if they have one, have you seen their save? The average blast spell is gonna get em more often than not. Almost a waste unless you can heavily and constantly buff your Reflex save up.

Provide an irresistible clump of minions, a safe distance away.
You should feel free to pay them well; it's not like they're ever going to spend it. Just select coinage with a high melting point.

Resist Energy can help cover the basics. In general, fire and elec protection will cover you for most big area attacks (lightning bolt and fireball).
