[PsiHB] Psychometabolism: Strength?

Dust

First Post
Has anyone else been slightly confused by Psychometabolism having strength as a prime score? Undead have no constitutions, and they cannot use psychometabolic powers, which would make sense if the two were linked (and, indeed, they make sense seperately as well). However, undead also use their strength scores for psychokinetic powers (instead of the normal constitution everyone else uses).

I'm thinking of switching the prime scores for these two disciplines. Has anyone else done this?

NO!!!

You can't do that!

If you do, then it will throw psions all out of balance.

Also, it will make undead not having PsychoMet powers make sense. And we can't have that now, can we?

Using Psychokinetics requires mental and physical energy (Wisdom or Con), so either one makes sense. Using Strength for Psychokinetics makes no sense. Many savants might be weak individuals who use Far Hand, Levitate and Telekinesis to move things around.

Using Psychometabolism requires fitness (Str or Con), so either makes sense. Using Con for egoists is probably better than using Strength, but see above.

In order for all this to fit, Con is used for Psycokinetics and Str for Psychometabolism. This does shaft the egoist, but at least it makes some sense. Using Str for Psychokinetics on the other hand, doesn't make sense.

dislike MAD? aye, destroys the flavor of psionics for me

things that make more sense in my mind (and doesn't require to psi to have uber stats across the board)

tie all of it to wisdom

con for bonus psp's, wis for powers dc/highest power learned(almost comparable to the wilders in WoT)

or if for some reason you think MAD is needed for balence(don't see why but hey *shrugs) and still want the Multiple Atrribute Dependancy, but with it closer to the way it's been rp-ed in the past(mostly that they revolve around the mind with some body involved)

con: psp's and psycometabolism

int: psychoportation, Metacreativity

wis: DC's, psychokinesis, Clairsentience, Telepathy

notes: the last one I got from the Darksun Board at the Wizard's website

the reasons the latter two have bonus psp's tie to con is that it reflects that psionics basically useing the body as a 'battery', while wisdom reflects pure willpower, and (inner) focus

con: psp's and psycometabolism

int: psychoportation, Metacreativity

wis: DC's, psychokinesis, Clairsentience, Telepathy

If you are going to switch over from MAD to limited MAD, then why are you leaving some of the powers and stuff tied to a physical ability that can change due to polymorph.

IMO, it would be better to do it this way:

Int = creativity and mental dexterity and strength --> Psyport and Metacreate; Also highest level power useable

Wis = mental resilliency --> PsyMet and Calrisent; also grants bonus PP.

Cha = force of personality --> PsyKinetic and Telepathy; also helps save DC's.

Of course YMMV
