My major cheese with the Psionics combat system is three-fold:
that the "deadliness" goes down as the opponents increase their Will saves. There is no efficient way for a psionicist to increase his Attacks DC other than increasing the associated Attribute Score.

that psionic monsters get free attacks/defenses and manifestations, making psionic combat with them for the purpose of reducing their ability to cause damage pointless.

A psionic character facing 8 mind flayers pays through the nose to keep raising defenses, as a defense must be raised to meet every attack.
So to combat these problems I have the following solutions: a. Monsters in general do not recieve unlimited amounts of power points for attacks and defenses. Certain powers may be generated at will, but in general, monsters abide by the same rules as psionic characters. b. Heighten Psionic Attack ; Prerequisites: Psions only. Benefit: You may expend extra power points while manifesting a psionic attack, to increase the Will save DC of your attack. Additional power points invested into the attack cause the Will save DC to increase 1 for each 2 power points the attack is heightened. You may spend no more on your attack in total than your level -1, including the cost for the psionic attack. Thus a 10th level psion may not heighten a mind blast attack at all, but he may heighten a Mind thrust attack by spending up to 8 power points (thus increasing the Will save DC +4). c. Trigger Psionic Defense; You may attempt to trigger psionic defenses for free. Prerequisite: Inner Strength, Talented, reserve power points (varies) Benefit: From now on you can attempt to trigger a defense mode without paying its cost. To trigger a defense mode, you must first satisfy the requirement of power point reserve equal to or greater than what it would normally cost you to manifest. Then make a Constitution check. If you meet or exceed the Constitution check DC (see below), the defense mode is manifested normally with no power cost. If you fail the check, you are forced to pay its cost, but the defense mode is still manifested normally. DCs for the ability check are determined by power point cost: 1, 13; 3, 15; and 5, 17. I'm starting to feel that Heighten Psionic Attack should have been part of the Psion class abilities to start with... But I should point out I do not allow the Resculpt Mind feat, or the Power Chain feats.
