Psionic Ranger

Has anyone ever played a psionic Ranger? Removing the spells and replacing them with a Psychic Warrior power progression?

With a full BAB, you'd want fewer powers than a PsiWar gets, and at a lower manifester level.

I did one a while ago... let me see if I can dig it up.

Ah, here it is. This was originally destined for publication in some book that got cancelled last year, or maybe the year before. This is the first time it's seen the light of day.

The "Octopsionic" feats are advanced feats (PHB-II style) for those who master a given technique. Also, note that I had turned the Soul Knife into a feat chain + a Kensai like PrC, so there's a Mind Blade path here.

I'll post those in the next bit (if I can find them).

Hunter
Alignment: Any.
Hit Die: d8.

Class Skills: The hunter's class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Autohypnosis (Wis), Climb (Str), Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Handle Animal (Cha), Heal (Wis), Hide (Dex), Jump (Str), Knowledge (dungeoneering, geography, nature, psionics) (Int), Listen (Wis), Move Silently (Dex), Profession (Wis), Ride (Dex), Search (Int), Spot (Wis), Survival (Wis), Swim (Str), and Use Rope (Dex).

Skill Points at 1st Level: (6 + Int modifier) x 4.
Skill Points at Each Additional Level: 6 + Int modifier.

* The hunter gains no power points from his class before 4th level. However, he does add any bonus power points he gains from a high Wisdom score, his race, and feats or other sources to his reserve. He can use these points (if any) to qualify for [Psionic] feats (or for any other purpose).

Powers:

Like a psychic warrior, a hunter's key ability is Wisdom. A hunter must have a Wisdom score of at least 10 + Power level to manifest that power, and the hunter gains bonus power points for having a high Wisdom score. The specific list of powers available to a hunter are listed below. Note that the hunter is treated as a psychic warrior for Powers that operate differently depending on manifester type (e.g.: dimension swap).

Unlike the core ranger, the hunter's manifester level is equal to his class level. This is because he will need those bonus power points to use many of his class abilities.

  • 1st Level: Astral Traveler, Biofeedback, Burst, Call Weaponry, Catfall, Chameleon, Conceal Thoughts, Detect Psionics, Detect Teleportation, Elfsight, Empty Mind, Far Hand, Float, Force Screen, Grip of Iron, Inertial Armor, Metaphysical Weapon, Missive, My Light, Defensive Precognition, Offensive Precognition, Offensive Prescience, Sense
Link, Stomp, Synesthete, Thicken Skin, Vigor
  • 2nd Level: Animal Affinity, Body Adjustment, Body Equilibrium, Body Purification, Psi Darkvision, Detect Hostile Intent, Dimension Swap, Empathic Transfer, Specified Energy Adaptation, Hustle, Prowess, Psi Scent, Psi Lion's Charge, Sustenance, Thought Shield, Wall Walker
  • 3rd Level: Danger Sense, Dimension Slide, Dispel Psionics, Ectoplasmic Form, Escape Detection, Mental Barrier, Touchsight, Ubiquitous Vision
  • 4th Level: Anchored Navigation, Correspond, Psi Dimension Door, Energy Adaptation, Psi Freedom of Movement, Inertial Barrier, Steadfast Perception

Combat Style: Like the ranger, but different. Pick one of the
following paths:

Archery:
2/ Rapid Shot
6/ Manyshot
11/ Improved Precise Shot

Mind Blade:
2/ Mind Blade
6/ Bonus Feat (any Mind Blade)
11/ Bonus Feat (any Mind Blade)

Psychic Archery:
2/ Psionic Shot
6/ Greater Manyshot
11/ Octopsionic Manyshot

Psychic Dervish:
2/ Psionic Weapon
6/ Whirlwind Attack
11/ Octopsionic Whirlwind Strike

Psychic Mauler:
2/ Psionic Weapon
6/ Great Cleave
11/ Octopsionic Cleave

Psychic Skirmisher:
2/ Speed of Thought
6/ Spring Attack
11/ (that Complete Warrior feat that lets you make a full attack while moving)

Two-Weapon Fighting:
2/ Two-Weapon Fighting
6/ Improved TWF
11/ Greater TWF

Zen Archer:
2/ Far Shot
6/ Fell Shot
11/ Improved Precise Shot

Zen Blade:
2/ Psionic Weapon
6/ Improved Sunder
11/ Octopsionic Sunder

Know Direction and Location: You gain this Power as an extra 1st level Power known. Additionally, you may use it 3/day as a psi-like ability (without spending any power points).

Evade Burst: You gain this Power as an extra 2nd level Power known, even though it is not on any list at that level.

Chameleon: You gain this Power as an extra 1st level Power known. If you already know this Power, you immediately learn a new 1st level Power of your choice instead. Additionally, whenever you manifest chameleon, its manifestation time is reduced to a move action.

Hide In Plain Sight: Like you'd think, except that it costs you 1 power point per use. (Perhaps re-implement as a 1st level power that costs a Move action and grants an immediate Hide attempt?)

Just a bump to say that I've now got my Octopsionic feats (and some other stuff), and I might just put them in a PDF, since they look pretty good.

So, consider this a preview for a product. ;)

It'd be interesting to see how an Archery-focused Hunter and an Archery-focused Marksman (from Untapped Potential) measured up against each other :)

Ooo, so would I! Anyone in the thread have that product yet?

Thanks, -- N

I'm pretty sure there is no CW feat that lets you make a full attack while moving, sir.

I really want to see these feats. (Here's an offer: copy of the .pdf for detailed mechanical feedback?)
