The first book was broken up into two paperbacks Surveillance and Metaconcert, the second/third book "Jack the Bodieless" are the ones you'll want. Past that it starts getting into pretty straight SF, but the first couple are set in contemporary/near future.Come to think of it Twin Peaks the TV series arguably can fit. Various psychic powers fit just as well as magic for explaining a lot of stuff in there. This is probably true of most "modern" fantasy as well.The manga/anime series Guyver (ignore the live action movies) is more biological engineering, but the powers of the Zoalords fit. Especially early in the series with Arkenfeld and Gyrot.</blockquote>
