Ptolus Class

SS

First Post
I am about to play in a new Ptolus campaign. I am thinking about playing an Urban Druid type. I have read an idea for an Urban Druid in Dragon issue 317. Here are my questions. Has anyone else played one? What problems might I run into? Do you have any home class ideas for the Urban Druid. Meaning have you made your own class, and may I see it? Thanks for your time.

Well, it certainly was interesting to play. I really liked having an animated object as an "animal companion". :D I started out with a small table as my companion, but eventually I traded up to a carraige (Large). That was heaps cool.

It was a shame not being able to turn into a bear with wild shape, so you end up with less raw power overall. Urban shaping into other humanoids is pretty cool, though... great for spy missions.

We didn't get high enough a level for me to get the Urban Shape ability to turn into objects, but seemed like a fun ability.

It's pretty fun, and certainly different. Sounds like it would be right at home in Ptolus. Good Luck! :)

Another option, since you ask for some homebrew alternatives, is a variation on the Archivist class... the Biosoph which you can get to from my signature below. It is essentially an Achivist (from Heroes of Horror book, or freely available from the WotC website), but with its focus changed from Occult, Fiends, Undead and the like, to Nature, Animals, Plants, Fey, Elementals, and other related critters.

The overall effect is a scholarly class with a focus on nature, maybe a bit more apprapo than a shape changing style of druid.

I would also point to a relatively recent dragon magazine that had a class called the Sidhe Scholar - sort of a Fey Magic Student., but not necessarily built specifically for the city.

Like Sound of Azure said, the standard Urban Druid is neat in its own ways, but still seems a bit out of place in the city to me.

(waves to SoA - College A&PI is killing my gaming frame of mind - even had to drop out of my Sunday regular game. No game design going on here lately. Hope all is well with you)

(waves back to Smootrk) No worries. I was a little burnt out on everything for a while, myself. School's starting up again soon, so I may disappear soon also. Got a couple of items for you to look at at your leisure in the geisha thread. They're only kind of half thought out, though.
