Ptolus - how have you changed it?

This, of course, assumes you are actually using or planning to one day use Ptolus.

I haven't had the pleasure of using Ptolus in an actual game but when I do my first act will be to eliminate centaurs from the setting. I'm just too jaded a fantasy fan to find centaurs at all interesting. I'd probably replace them with something like the Anpur (gnolls from GR's Hamunaptra setting), Elan's (XPH) or Githyanki (also XPH). Of course that would entail creating and justifying a background to make it all fit well.

I don't like the way Monte doesn't differentiate between Demons and Devils. Although I don't think it will come up much, if at all, I like to think of them as seperate and different creatures.

I might change the stats of the ratmen to those of the Slitheren (Scarred Lands).

From what I understand the Chaositech rules are a bit wonky. I'd hit up Psion for his thoughts on the the matter.

A few other things as they come up but in the end fairly minor changes. Much of the rest would remain the same.

How 'bout you?

I run in a shared world campaign. I'm the third DM to run it so Ptolus already had some history predone.

We started back when there was only Banewarrens.

The world is a post apocalyptic Greyhawk. Ptolus is where Greyhawk used to be before the war of Powers 10,000 years ago. The greyhawk gods are the old gods, newly and mysteriously making a resurgence in the world.

St. Gaen is a st. of Lothian who died and was martyred fighting a demon at golden lake (Demon God's Fane).

The emperor sought to reestablish the might of the empire and church and raised and mobilized several legions. Several Lothian priests have declared themselves not subject to the centralized church and their city states have revolted. The Lothian empire is now at full civil war and Lothian is silent on the issue.

The central lothians loyal to the emperor are now producing warforged and have required wizards to register, accept marks and tithe magical items/service to the empire.

The Inverted Pyramid refused to be regulated and offered sactuary to renegade wizards. The elven allies have abandoned the empire.

Some say that the central lothians are stealing souls of newborns to create their warforged. The central lothianites say this is pure propaganda. Instead they say the revolting priests have been corrupted by fiends and led into heresy and treason to the empire so as to weaken it for conquest by orc armies led by fiendish masters who wait at the border. Some say devils, others demons.

Some party explorations hint that diabolic plots have done something with Lothian and taken away the druidic fire shard artefact that he stole from the efreetis after slaying their jyhadding sultan and that he used to inspire a crusade to fight demon cults and later to ascend to godhood in the second war of powers.

I'll be starting a new Ptolus campaign in the next week or so. The firm changes I've made ...

- added AE character classes to the mix. I'll be changing certain NPC's over to an AE version when appropriate. I've also added racial levels to all the races.

- centaurs are NPC only, no PC's. I'm working on storyline for adding Genasi (FR). If I can get something that I like, then those races will be added into the pot.

- I'm switching the rat men over to the slitheren as well. Definately my favorite Scarred Lands book!

-I'm using IK rules for the firearms and adding greatcloaks onto the equipment list. They are just too cool !

I still haven't read a good chunk of the book so I haven't made any firm changes to the major players, or the politics of the city. But I'm certain I'll tweak something.
