My Ptolus just arrived and OH MY GOD! WOW! This book is so awesome! It has a dragonhide cover. Well maybe they are city street cobblestones on reflection. But you can feel the scales/stones. The art is beautiful. Turn to any random page and there are 2-4 little pictures, maps, diagrams, symbols. Tons of beautiful large sweeping art pieces. The book is chock full of color. The sidebars are color-coded. Green, red, blue, purple, brown, etc. There are colored tabs on each page which you can see when the book is closed to easily open the book to the appropriate section. There are three silk bookmarks stitched into the spine for keeping track of specific pages. The print is small so they can fit a lot of info on each page. And they do. Descriptions, NPC's (including stats), little encounters, big encounters, guilds, coats of arms, the level of detail is amazing! Every little thing I have read so far is intriguing and sparks the imagination. It will take months to read through this thing. You could probably run a campaign out of this book alone for years. One of the happiest D&D purchases I have ever made! I need to sit down now and dig into this thing. I know this is going to take awhile...
