Public Transport in Indy?

Apologies if this belongs in a different forum.

My friend and I will be attending GenCon Indy for the first time, this summer. We're trying to cut down on costs, so we'll be staying a little further from the convention center, probably towards the airport. How is public transportation in Indianapolis? Are there buses or subways that run regularly (at weird hours)?

There's 3 or 4 parking garages within close vicinity of the Convention area, I parked at an outdoor parking lot (about 3 blocks from the convention center) with a daily charge of something like $6, although it had a chain fence, and a guard house in front. Though I've stayed in the expensive hotels right at the convention center the first time, I have relatives living in Indy, so now I stay there, driving my car from my relatives to the parking areas.

Of course I live in Illinois, and Indy is only about 230 miles from me, so I can get away with using my own car, rather than renting. The elevator garages are more expensive. 3 gencons ago, I had a booth at the Con so was there from Wednesday to Sunday, and my total garage parking cost $75 for 5 days of parking.

I work in Indianapolis (and live about 50 miles out). There is a bus system IndyGo | Home | Indianapolis Public Transportation Corporation of varying usefulness, and no subway/light rail. Most visitors seem to use taxis (or walking within the downtown core area). There seems to be enough parking, but not sure how much is actually convenient to the Convention Center.

There may still be some resources available online that were related to the Super Bowl tourist crowds- and I would bet the walking is easier in August than it was in February.

Hope this helps.

I'm guessing this is a SPAMbot, since it's just repeating text I already posted in this thread. Worth removing I think, even though his link is broken.

I stayed outside of downtown my first two trips and may I suggest to just find the extra cash and stay downtown if possible. It's so worth it to be able to come and go as you want to, be close and have some place to drop off swag. My suggestion to people is if you can go every year staying out in the cheaper hotels or every-other year and stay downtown then just go every-other year. I find the convenience of staying downtown worth that much. It was almost hard to believe the difference. You can often find roommates or such to share rooms too.

It might be more cost effective to stay downtown, it seems, anyway, between a car rental and parking fees. Guess we'll look into it, thanks for the tips
