Published persistent mega-dungeons

What are the published persistent mega-dungeons? (Let's also distinquish between official and unofficial.)

The Ruins of Undermountain, 1991

World's Largest Dungeon, 2004

Things like the various giant lairs (G1-3) aren't really big enough, nor are they really intended for multiple delvings (after completing the adventure missions). And Castle Greyhawk, though legendary, was never really published.

At first, I put Temple of Elemental Evil in this category, but thinking more about it, it's probably more like the G series -- meant for a one time through (even if completion requires many assaults).

That's all that sits on the top of my brain, right now.

Although G1-G3 are single adventures, the carry-on D1-D3 are fit for massive long-term exploration. The finale Q1 is back to a single adventure format.

Oh how I wish that were true. Talk about one of the most dissappointing products of all time-eck!

I am jealous of your ability to block it out.

I assume you refer to the joke module. I didn't think Ruins of Greyhawk (2E) was that bad. We played much further into RoG than any other mega-dungeon mentioned here except Rappan Athuk.

So you're saying Gary Gygax's legendary persistent mega-dungeon he named Castle Greyhawk was published? And it was very dissappointing? I didn't know this.

You wouldn't be referring to the joke/comedic module titled "Castle Greyhawk," because that isn't a persistent mega-dungeon as the title and subject of this thread is about. I do know about this, but bringing it up and discussing it here would be a threadcrap.

The Blackmoor Dungeon is in The First Fantasy Campaign, published by Judges Guild in 1980. I'm not sure if it would count as a mega-dungeon by today's standards though - 10 levels, between 14 and 50 rooms on each level. The descriptions are very minimal, which I believe was the case with Greyhawk too, originally.

This is level one:

1) 14 Spiders: AC 2, 18 HTK (each)
2) Empty
3) 1000 SP, 4000 GP, 3 Gems. Polymorph self Potion, Six Bodies
4) 16 Goblins: AC 6, 2 HTK
5) Empty
6) 8 Spiders: AC 4, 17 HTK
7) 32 Kobolds: AC 7,1 HTK
8) Empty
9A)
9B)
9C) 7 Spiders: AC 2, 12 HTK
9D) 2400 GP, 40 Goblins: AC 6, 1 HTK
9E) 600GP, 20 Goblins: AC6, 4HTK
9F)
