Publishing Advice Needed

Well, my wife and i just finished (in the process of self-editing) our first RPG book: A Magical Medieval Society: Western Europe! Whoot!

I've just contacted a professional editor recommened by someone in the industry, but i wanted to get ya'lls opinion about prices.

How much should editing a 126ish page book cost? Just want to make sure i don't get ripped (don't think i will because such things in a small industry are like shooting yourself in the head) but i'm cautious (suspicious even.. :) ) and would appreciate advice.

thanks in advance,

Joseph Browning (writes better for his buuk) :)

Edited because I clearly failed by "reading for comprehension check."

Yes, 40% of what you pay the author is typical.

I've heard 1.6 cents per word for editing, or 40% of the cost of writing. I imagine that value fluctuates wildly based on the depth of editing needed and the editor's experience. You might want to check Sue Cook's boards for more info since they're dedicated to writers and editors:
