Maiden Voyage of the Stardancer CORSAIR BLUE DEVIL RAIDS STARDANCER! High Altitude Highwaymen Prowling for a Easy Purse to Pluck! Crew and Passengers Saved by Cooks Assistant and Average Joe! Style The newspaper headline the moring after, or is it? Do your characters have the cool head and the pluck to handle such a surprising situation? it is a lot for the Average Jane or Joe, but your characters are made of sterner stuff. Not everything is going to go as expected on the maiden voyage of the airship the Stardancer. The adventure packs two-fisted pulp action, where brawn, brain, and a witty wise crack will all come in handy. Characters will be thrown into the thick of things with a chance to show off their mettle and shine in front of some of the other stars and bigwigs of Ibrea and Albury. Background The Stardancer is the newest cruise airship of the Lannoxshire Line (LL). Albury papers ran tidbits about the new ship for weeks; it is supposed to be the apex of passenger airships, sparing no expense to pamper its passengers. If everything is true, LL has outdone themselves, but then they went a step farther and put fifteen pairs of tickets into a lottery. The rest of the tickets the company either gave away to the powerful and influential of Albury or auctioned them off. The cruise will set out from Albury Airfield on the south coast and land in Marsbrook in the northwest the afternoon of the seventh day. It’s meant to be a relaxing vacation for the passengers, and the advertisements have promised every passenger will be pampered, no matter how they received their ticket. The fifth evening promises to be the highlight (suit and tie requested, but not a black and white occasion): gambling, dancing, and dining, with music, food, and drinks to match the finest restaurants in Albury. As luck would have it, your character is going on the maiden voyage. Setting The setting is a homebrew, Tiere, and takes place in the nation of Ibrea considered by many, especially its natives, to be the most progressive nation in the world. In the style of Eberron, low level magic is prevalent and acts much like technology, and provides many with day to day convenience, at least those that live near the major cities. Magic provides lights and heat for homes, power to smelt iron, and create mass produced items. Personal wands replace guns and airships can cruise through the sky, but for the most part “technology” mirrors what was available during the age of pulp adventure. Go here for the following post, plus more info: http://rpg.cabezeree.com/Pulp/pulp_index.htm This is a “casting call” for characters that have yet to discover their true potential, but have something more inside. The game will run using d20 Modern (read below about PACE too); 3rd level characters and 27 points for abilities. I’m going directly from the SRD, but I do have the two Dungeon magazines with the Pulp Hero articles. Equipment is trickier; they will only have with them what they can carry onto the Stardancer, it’d be relatively easy to smuggle some small gadgets and weapons, but don’t go crazy. Characters Throw them at me (psc@cabezeree.com) or post the ideas here. Remember to include a good background with a how and why they made it on the Stardancer. I’ll be looking for interest up until Sat (16 Jul 05) with the game to begin optimally on the following Mon. PACE Actually, because it is a one shot, and I’ve always wanted to use the system, I’d really like to use the PACE RPG mechanics (from the 24 hr RPG challenge http://www.1km1kt.net/rpg/PACE.php), instead of d20 Modern. I like the look of it, it seems quick, and think it would fit well with Pulp style adventures. However, if there isn’t enough interest, we’ll stick with the d20 Modern.
