for me no... not every character needs or (IMO) should do the same damage.... but at the end I have a cavet for me no... not every character needs or (IMO) should do the same amount in any 1 pillar as the others . but at the end I have a cavet yup... I just want... wait, here is that BUT.... I want casters and noncasters to have choices... I want my fighter or roggue (or make up a new class name) to be ABLE TO CHOOSE to be as effective at X as a Y... but in different ways. you are absolutly right I should be able to choose to be the face, or the dps single target or teh AOE... I just think that all of the base archetypes if not the classes need to have those options. My middle of the road example is always the hexblade/tomelock warlock... I can choose to be caster focus, I can choose to spend my invocatiions on at will tricks or daily tricks, I can choose some AOEs or I can single target... I can't make 1 character that is great at all of them thouugh, if I try I get 1 or two tricks for each. Howeveer I could build 10 warlocks and have 10 VERY diffrent characters in play.
