The party along with King Hekaton is hunting for Iymrith's Lair to rescue his daughter Princess Serissa. The journey sees them end up in an archaic ruined settlement, they are completely off course. King Hekaton, believing this to be the dragon's lair, bellows out demanding Iymrith show herself only to rile up a gargantuan purple worm in the area. The fighter-barbarian half-orc not missing an opportunity, engages in melee, betwixt storm giant and the mauve monstrosity. Every round he was taking improvising damage due to fallen rubble from the ruins, the shifting terrain and the thrusts and movement of the epic participants near him. Anyways they eventually slay the unfortunate purple worm before it can escape into the depths of the Anauroch desert. The gluttonous bugbear seeks out the tastiest meat cuts, the enterprising Firbolg investigates the worm to learn from it and claim some hide for possible future equipment, while the half-orc tears through the beasts innards looking for its stomach. Once there he loses a dagger to its acid before being more careful as he navigates its belly in the hopes of finding treasure. So I tell the player to roll 5 percentiles and that for every tens number (10, 20, 30 etc) he rolls we will roll on the magical item table whereas the others will be trinkets, with a good chance of it being nothing if they could not survive in the acid. Well he gains two magical items. I tell him roll d10 to see which Magical Item Table I use - Table A being 1-2 and Table I being 10 - all the others in between. So he proceeds to roll two 10's. Yikes! Ok, roll percentile twice, let us see which two items. 97 Talisman of Pure Good 99 Talisman of Ultimate Evil Grief! So, I google Good Deities of Forgotten Realms which opens into the wiki He rolls on the Alphabet and gets the letter M - I tell him roll 1d6 and he ends up on Moradin, which is perfect since they are near Ascore which was an archaic dwarvern settlement. Chances! So the Talisman of Pure Good has the emblem of Moradin on it. In the DMG they have 7 charges, after an Identify I tell him roll 1d6, let us see how many charges it has. He rolls a 6! Blast you Moradin! As an aside The Talisman of Ultimate Evil ends up being an item in service of Yeenoghu (3 charges). One of the PCs, a female tiefling wizard, decided to risk a quick Identify [we use a modified 2e version where you can opt to attempt to protect yourself from negative affects when Identifying evil/cursed items - but it can take hours if you roll badly]. She ignores any safety precautions, having confidence in her abilities, and fails her Sanity DC 10. I told the player to roll 1d6 to determine the severity of the Madness, thankfully they rolled for the lowest, got struck with Fear (10 minutes). So I let the player interpret her fear, result being the tiefling instantly Teleports back to Waterdeep. They decide she is going to stay there for the day, relax, eat and sleep well, get her hair done etc and Teleport back in the morning. Player then sees that they only qualify for 54-100 for the On Target category for the Teleport spell. They asks if their character has much sand from traversing the Anauroch desert for several days, hoping to claim an Associated/Linked Object. I tell them the sand they find in her clothing, backpack and boots is worth 1d20% on the table. Their 18 on the 1d20 increases their chances to 36-100 for qualifying as being On Target for the spell. So player rolls a 37% - the tiefling returns just as her party members are packing up to leave. Me smh Any crazy lucky rolls at your tables?
