Quaal's feather token (bird) question

Something came up regarding this item in my last session. Is it possible for the bird to be killed through physical means? Unfortunately the description of the item is rather vague, but it's important that this question get answered.

I don't think the token is a bird, so it can't be killed.

Bird: A token that can be used to deliver a small written message unerringly to a designated target as would a carrier pigeon. The token lasts as long as it takes to carry the message.

Note it says it works "as would a carrier pigeon", not that it is a pigeon. Also, "the token lasts as long as it takes to carry the message" not "the bird lasts...". So I don't think the feather token actually becomes or summons a bird.
