[QUOTE="doctorbadwolf, post: 7875074, member: 6704184"] So, I’ve been building a TTRPG based on the real world, with a secret world (worlds, actually. 9 of them) of supernatural wonders and dangers, darkness which threatens all the worlds, and a world very like ours which stands at a nexus point, and is the front line from which the war against the darkness is spreading throughout the many branches of the world tree. That world is called Chevar. And I have questions. 😂 First, the name. Right now it’s called Quest for Chevar, or QfC. I like it, it has a good ring to it, and it has generally made people wonder what Chevar is and what the quest entails, which seems like a good thing. The other name I’ve toyed with using is Champions of Chevar, but I feel like that is...a more common naming structure, won’t stand out as well, and just isn’t as fun to say. Also CoC is a terrible acronym. Thoughts? Second query is...the stats. Right now they are 6; Strength, Dexterity, Fortitude, Wits, Will, and Charisma. Each stat represents a pool of Attribute Points starting with a range of 1-4, which have two basic uses. First, you can spend one that is appropriate to an action in order to reroll a flubbed check. If you do, you definitely succeed, and are rolling for degree of success. The player describes how they are drawing upon that Attribute in order to succeed at this task. Second, many special abilities require that you spend an AP. Some specify an Attribute (spend 1 Dex AP), while others don’t. 6 stats does a good job of spreading the points out and forcing players to consider how they can pull from their Will to push through something that would normally require Strength. I am considering consolidating the Scores into; Body, Wits, and Will. Or a variant thereof. Thing is, Will is very important thematically to the game, as it is what powers magic, and effecting the world. It could easily fill a role more like Hope in The One Ring, as conscious Will is what makes the world exist, and can bring luck, push events toward a conclusion, etc. But it also makes sense as one stat among several. 🤷♂️ I’m just looking for general thoughts, here, but I’m happy to answer any clarifying questions!
