Just a little fun for those on the boards and also I (and some of my players) would love some external opinions. This situation has already been resolved, but opinions for <possible> future occurrences would be helpful. Definitions first……. Divine Magic – In my world divine magic has a central source. Gods are overpowered / nearly omnipotent beings that “filter” that magic. Nature can also be used to filter the magic. Athar – a PrC that taps the source of divine magic directly, but has not ascended to godhood. Solar – highest level of celestial servant to lawful good gods. Hound Archon – Celestial hunters and scouts. They are 2nd tier celestial servants. Paladin – just a little definition, in my campaign Paladins are not “bound” to always tell the truth. They can make judicious use of the truth, lies, and half truths, providing it’s within the realm of their tenant. Ok, the background. Very powerful (epic) Athar meets party and “befriends” them. Athar has long history and background as a cleric, party does not know what god however. Athar has “friend” who is a Solar, who the party meets in a number of various circumstances. Party is maneuvered into the appropriate circumstance and manipulated into destroying the true name of the Solar. Solar is not destroyed, but instead is freed from its inherent nature. Without a true name, the Solar basically becomes rogue, and unaligned, and no longer under divine edict. Paladin conveys this information to Athar in later meeting. Athar basically tells the Paladin that Paladin and group screwed up. That even though it’s not their fault, that they will likely be frowned upon and held responsible for the act. Athar explains that this must have happened through circumstances where the party was not under the notice of their god. As such, and with further proof of the party’s continued existence, the god likely does not know that the party did the deed. Athar tells paladin that he should never talk of this, should never share the knowledge that he did the deed, and under no circumstances should the paladin choose to pray about the deed. Party travels on for ~6 months in game time. Paladin does not convey the “deed” to any in his faith. Paladin does not pray about deed. Paladin and party do encounter “rogue Solar” again a couple times. Party, on their travels, encounters a Hound Archon hunting pack. Archons are hunting for the ones who “affected the servant”. Paladin immediately fesses up to Archons. Now, the question is this. What are the general opinions about the likelihood of the paladin admitting this, in context with the background? I am sure that my players will be commenting on some of this as well, as they always see extra mitigating circumstances. Thanks……
